Damn Yankees

The Washington Senators baseball team just can't seem to beat those "Damn Yankees" from New York. Joe Body wants the Senators to win the pennant so badly that he is willing to leave his wife, Meg, and sell his soul for a long-ball hitter.

Mr. Applegate, a mysterious stranger, offers Joe Boyd a deal. In exchange for his soul, he would become the 22 year old Joe Hardy who would lead the Senators to the League Championship! After talking Applegate into an "escape clause," Boyd makes the deal. Applegate transforms Boyd into Joe Hardy and helps him acquire a position with the Washington Senators.

After a few weeks, Joe Hardy begins to miss his old wife and returns to Meg's house to rent a room. Applegate is not pleased with Joe's interest in his former wife, fearing that Joe may be considering an exercise of the escape clause in their deal. In order to keep Joe's soul, Applegate orders teh best home wrecker on his staff to come to Washington. The vampish home wrecker, Lola, tries to seduce Joe but finds his genuine honesty and faithfulness too difficult to break through. Instead of destroying him, she starts to fall in love with Joe Hardy.

Now Applegate must resort to other means to make sure that the Senators do not win the pennant and that Joe still loses his soul. At Applegate's bidding, the story begins to unravel...after all, misery and suffering are the goal of his work!
